Frank Has a Job

More or less.Cubicles crop Asa Wilson

I am pleased to report that I once again have a reason to put on a tie every day. I’ve signed on with an investment management start-up in Boston. Details are not relevant here, but bottom line is that my thinking hours are now consumed by commercial activity, to the exclusion of, among other amusements, this blog.

Of course, start-ups are fragile things. For all I know I’ll be back here by summer. Either way, I’m going to keep paying the (very small) fees involved in keeping this site up for those who find my old posts worth reading. Google still sends a steady stream of readers this way on daily basis so I guess some of you must still find this stuff of use.

Once again, to all my readers, loyal and otherwise, a heartfelt thanks for allowing a curmudgeon to ramble on a bit.

Congratulations on the new gig. Good luck, and thanks for this site. I’ll miss the blog (especially Frugal Fridays).

Congratulations, Mr. Curmudgeon. :) Thank you for all your informative, thought-provoking, and entertaining posts. Good luck.

Congratulations! I hope that the new job works out! But I also hope you’ll come back and post occasionally :)

Good luck with the new job! As a Boston area resident I can say this winter should be fun.

You are a phenomenal writer and I wish I found your blog earlier than I did (only found it ~5 months ago). You have an amazing knack for putting things in terms anyone can understand, and you show great perspective on things. I will miss your blog! Thanks for the time you invested thus far and for keeping the blog up :)

  • By Kevin, February 13, 2011 @ 1:15 pm

Well, congrats. And I hope we don’t see you back here soon.

  • By Eric, February 14, 2011 @ 1:11 pm

    Frank:
This is the best PF blog on the web. Come one man, you got to find time to post occasionally.

  • By mightymouselives, February 14, 2011 @ 3:01 pm

I’m one of these, checking in periodically hoping for an update. Maybe when the job settles in you’ll find you have more time. Good luck with the job, but you’ll be missed.

  • By jim, February 14, 2011 @ 3:49 pm

Glad to hear you got a job. I would like to see more posts if you can find the time. You’re certainly one of the best bloggers around as far as I’m concerned. I’d also consider throwing up an Adsense ad to generate some income to pay your hosting bills. No reason you should be taking a loss on this.

  • By Mr. West, February 21, 2011 @ 5:51 pm

Frank is a very macro-oriented trader … but there are no macro trends in place to play … his firm will go bust and he will be back soon.

  • By M, February 21, 2011 @ 11:17 pm

    Frank –
Congratulations — may your job be what you hope for it to be. I left your site in my bookmarks and every once in a while wonder by, hoping for some interesting perspective and witty commentary.

Good luck, I just wanted to share with you that I appreciated the time that you put into your writing and thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog…..

    Thank you.
    M

Congratulations, Frank. I’m sure your clients will benefit from your wit and your skepticism of the “can’t miss” investments and ideas.

@Mr. West: That’s a mean-spirited thing to say. Based just on Frank’s previous posts, I’d be comfortable having him manage my money.

  • By Kent @ The Financial Philosopher, February 24, 2011 @ 10:30 am

I wish you the best, Frank. The blogosphere will miss your voice.

Have you considered opening the blog to your readers to submit posts? Just a thought…

    Here’s another thought:

“Don’t seek happiness. If you seek it, you won’t find it, because seeking is the antithesis of happiness.” ~ Ekhart Tolle

I’ll stay tuned until Summer. Cheers…

Good luck and looking forward to a short post here and there!

  • By Adam, February 24, 2011 @ 4:48 pm

I wish you’d come back. My favourite PF blog on the web.

  • By Rob, March 1, 2011 @ 1:48 am

Great day! Say it ain’t so, Joe. Well, keep paying the fees and we’ll be right here waiting for you:)

  • By Mr. West, March 6, 2011 @ 8:30 pm

Any serious investment firm now prohibits their employees from posting anything investment related on the Internet without the firm’s prior approval. So if Frank has a real job in the investment industry, it’s unlikely he’s going to be posting anything anonymously on the Internet. So don’t hold your breath looking for a new “Frank … I’m anonymous” post.

  • By studio monitors, April 14, 2011 @ 12:15 am

Best wishes Frank. Hope things go well for you, though we will miss you. I hope you can occasionally still put up a post or 2.

  • By Shawn Eyestone Law, May 17, 2011 @ 1:51 pm

I hope all is going well Frank and that you may find time in your now busy schedule to post another thing or two as I have just found this blog. I will enjoy reading previous posts and wish you luck in your new venture!

FRANK, WAKE UP!!!!!!!! YOU’RE SITTING ON A FORTUNE!!!!!

You can make a lot more money with a website, speaking, books and radio show than you can working hard and investing… just look at Dave Ramsey!!!!!

  • By Heather, June 26, 2011 @ 5:37 pm

I just discovered your blog this morning and haven’t stopped reading since. Please don’t kill it. I hope your new job is rewarding.

  • By SenseoftheFather, July 6, 2011 @ 3:52 pm

Please come back if only to throw us a freakin’ bone every few weeks or so. The PF Blogging world is dangerously out of balance. I can only take a few more posts about the latest CITI rewards cards and that I should have a written budget. Your site provides a unique (yet very effective) counter to the regurgible (not a word? I don’t care) masses.

  • By Gege Apple, August 29, 2011 @ 6:29 am

    Hi Frank,

Just stopped by after being offline myself and see that you’ve quit blogging too, but for a better reason than me.

The new job must be working out for you since it’s now mid-September. Good for you. I hope the industry has changed for the better and keeps you employed.

  • By Sam Gentry, September 14, 2011 @ 6:26 pm

    Hey Frank -
Congratulations on the new job. It sure can be a really stressful event starting a new job but in this age, changing jobs is really the norm.

  • By Tina, September 27, 2011 @ 5:42 pm

Thank you so much for your blog, Frank. I came across it by accident and I almost couldn’t believe there was someone else who sees through personal finance gurus. Good luck on your new job.

  • By Mr. West, October 8, 2011 @ 11:01 am

    Frank’s real wisdom:

People with important work to do don’t waste their time on blogs.

  • By Tax Savings, October 24, 2011 @ 9:01 am

    Hi Frank
Really happy to know about your new job! Congratulations. You will surely have time pressure but with time you will be able to manage your time between different activities quite efficiently.

  • By Mr. West, November 25, 2011 @ 4:07 pm

I just noticed this year that a lot of good investment websites (like “My Investing Notebook”) are run by anonymous but obviously very knowledgeable and apparently professional people. It could have to do with the FINRA rules, but it’s all very strange that they want to remain anonymous. Sounds like a future topic for Frank – why did he want to be anonymous anyway?

  • By Melzar Coulter, November 26, 2011 @ 7:38 pm

I followed this blog some time ago and spent some time away after Frank stopped blogging. It took me some time to remember the address. Hope he starts again soon!
